Wayne Rooney becomes Manchester United’s record goalscorer
The 31-year-old fired a free-kick at the death to rescue a point against Stoke to notch his 250th goal for United, surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton’s total.
It has been a difficult season for Rooney, who had failed to net in the Premier League since the opening day of the campaign, but his late effort ensures his place in the club’s record books.
Rooney stepped off the bench in the second half to make his mark after a Juan Mata own goal put Mark Hughes’ side ahead.
He drew level with Charlton on 249 strikes earlier this month when he netted against Championship side Reading in the FA Cup
